Milestone Blessings

Words of blessing for baptism, birthdays, graduation, and marriage that parents and grandparents can say, write in a card, or pray.

“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Baptism / baptism anniversary

Child of God, you were washed and named in Jesus' name. May you always remember that you belong to Him. 'Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.' (Isaiah 43:1)

Original wording + Scripture. Traditions practicing infant baptism (Lutheran, Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, Reformed, Orthodox) often celebrate baptism birthdays. Baptist and other believer's-baptism families may use this at a child's baptism.

Birthday

Thank You, Lord, for another year of [name]'s life. You knit them together and know them by name (Psalm 139:13). Grow them in wisdom and in favor with God and man this year, as Jesus grew (Luke 2:52). Amen.

Original; any tradition.

Graduation

'Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.' (Proverbs 3:5-6) We are proud of you, and we pray you go with God in every step ahead.

Original + Scripture; any tradition.

Marriage

May the Lord who made you male and female and joined you as one flesh fill your home with His love. 'Two are better than one... a threefold cord is not quickly broken.' (Ecclesiastes 4:9,12)

Original + Scripture; any tradition.

Confirmation / first communion

May the Lord who began a good work in you carry it on to completion (Philippians 1:6). Stand firm in the faith, and remember that we are praying for you.

Original + Scripture; for traditions that practice confirmation or first communion.
